Just out of curiosity, when would Ghana realise the potential of information, and the association of information to relevant geographic areas?
Can anyone tell me which government sector is effectively employing the use of GIS, or providing interactive mapping services for individuals and organisations both at home and/or abroad?
The collection manipulation and analysis of geographic information has benefited so many countries. There're tones of evidence!!
There is the old saying that knowledge is power, well, the knowledge is not all about school, it could also be about knowing what is happening at a geographic location at a particular time or over a period of time (trend).
The ability to visually associate information to the geographic location where it is happening will in more ways offers policy makers an insight into what sort of policy will suit where, e.g. number of police personnel in an area, where to site the next fire station, which peace of land belongs to who, state of a peace of land, length and quality of a stretch of road etc instead of the one size fits all approach or blindly thrusting policies or decision to local authorities.
Information is the key to good governance. GIS in my opinion is the way forward.
It would be s delight if Ghana would start managing its information resources effectively.
