First, catch your snake. This should be a python. Tie the snake to a pole and while still alive, skin and remove excess fat. Remove the gall bladder and keep for other culinary/medical purposes. Chop the snake into one inch lengths and place in a pot of cold water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 3-4 hours. When cooking is complete, discard the water. (Boil the head of the snake separately, the liquid is useful as a remedy against choking.) Meanwhile, prepare separately stock from a chicken (an old one) and/or pork scraps, onion, chili, salt and pepper. While this is cooking, skim off the fat and discard. Cook for 3-4 hours, let cool and remove all extraneous elements. Prepare also a herb soup of abika cabbage and a large quantity of ginger. Combine all ingredients and reheat. As an optional extra, brandy may be added.

Bula, the method of cooking is one from one of these tribes somewhere on the globe..
i suspect its part of thier ritual in cooking the snake soup.

I guess in Ghana, they just hit the snake on the head, and then get to work.
Does it have to be a python?
What kind is eaten in Ghana?

Does anyone know?

Zulu, if you've already done this, next time try a viper or rattle snake mpusuo where you
will need garlic, ginger, rosemary, stock cube, hot chillis and a tomato paste, or you can forget the tomato and use a groundnut paste.
Mmmmm, delicious.

NEW RECIPE FOR SNAKE MEAL FROM THE ZULULAND

Chop off the head and just a small portion of the tail...(about 1/4 of an inch off the tail). make a pocket between the skin and the meat where the head used to be. insert your knife and slit the snake open lengthwise. separate the meat from the skin. put your favourite spices on the skin and leave it out to dry for a couple of days. The skin makes good snake wele!!!

Now chop the snake up into little sections...little bits like sushi. season with jack's inferno sauce and let marinade in the fridge for 6hrs(mambas and cobras). 2days(for vipers, anacondas and pythons) depending on the toughness of the meat. Fry or bake the marinated meat. Enjoy!!! you can also serve this piping hot from the oven with equally hot banku and hotter shito...you might bite your tongue for this is the tastiest way to serve your snake meat!!!
